Bengal Warriors vs UP Yoddha Match Preview

The 132nd match between Bengal Warriors and UP Yoddha will mark the end of the Pro Kabaddi League season’s Zone matches. The final match of the league stage will be played at Bengal Warriors’ home ground, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium in Kolkata today at 9 pm IST. It will be a Zone B affair.

This match will prove to be the most important match for UP Yoddhas this year since it is a virtual eliminator. If they manage to win, they’ll climb up to the third position in Zone B and thus go on to qualify for the final stages of the league. (Currently, they are placed 4th with 52 points).

However, if they are defeated, it will be the Patna Pirates who would be sailing to the knockouts with a superior points tally of 55. UP cannot afford to draw as well. Although a draw would take them to 55 points and on par with Pirates, they cannot pass due to the latter’s superior points tally. (-36 as compared to UP’s -61). Yoddhas have to win the match at any cost if they are to progress.

However, Bengal Warriors too will desperately want to win this encounter, since they have a massive chance of topping the Zone B points table. (If at all Bengaluru Bulls’ lose by more than 7 points.) Topping the table matters, since it would ensure a direct entry to the qualifiers.

Therefore, with both the teams expected to fight with all their force to clinch the match, this fixture has all the elements to become a highly entertaining encounter to watch.

Form

In the recent times, UP Yoddha has been a resurgent force. In fact, they have been unbeaten for the last five matches, winning on four of those occasions. The highlight of this run was a massive win against the free-scoring U Mumba (32-34) who have amassed 36 more points than them.

As for the Bengal Warriors, they have also been in prolific form of late. They have won 5 of their last six matches. However, it is not the quantity but the quality of the teams they have defeated that is impressive. They defeated sides like Patna Pirates (39-23), Telugu Titans (39-34), and the table toppers Bengaluru Bulls (37-31) by comfortable margins to make them an early favourite for the title.

Predicted Line-Up

Bengal Warriors: Ran Singh, Jang Kun Lee, Maninder Singh, Ravindra Ramesh Kumawat, Ziaur Rahman, Baldev Singh, and Surjeet Singh.

UP Yoddha: Nitesh Kumar, Shrikant Jadhav, Prashanth Kumar Rai, Azad Singh, Narender, Sachin Kumar, and Jeeva Kumar.
