PKL 2018: UP Yoddha Edge Out U Mumba; Bengal defeated Patna

In one of the Pro Kabaddi League ( PKL) season 6 match on Saturday, UP Yoddha defeated U Mumba by 34-32 at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium in Kolkata.

UP Yoddha clinched a last-second thriller win to keep their playoffs hope alive. Also, this is UP Yoddha’s first-ever victory over U Mumba in the Pro Kabaddi League. Sachin Kumar’s high five and Prashanth Kumar Rai’s brave couple of raid points in the closing seconds proved vital for U.P. Yoddha’s victory. Sachin Kumar had a brilliant game in defence for UP Yoddha as he earned six tackle points while Rishank Devadiga scored seven raid points. Prashanth Kumar Rai scored a maximum of 8 points for UP Yoddha while Rohit Baliyan scored maximum 10 points for U Mumba.

The game was more of a tactical contest between the two sides as the points were hard-earned during the match. At the end of the half-time, UP Yoddha were leading 18-15.

UP Yoddha started the second half solidly with a super tackle in the 21st minute to lead 20-15. But U Mumba inflicted an all-out in the 23rd minute to level the match at 20-20.

For the next 10 minutes, it was an equal contest with both teams picking raid and tackle points. Rishank made a couple of raid points in the 32nd minute to give UP Yoddha a 29-25 lead. With five minutes to go, Rohit Baliyan made a couple of raid points to level the match at 31-31.

Darshian Kadian forced a mistake out of UP Yoddha’s defence in the 40th minute to tie the match at 32-32. In the end, Prashanth Kumar Rai made an excellent two-point raid in the last dying seconds to give UP Yoddha a narrow 34-32 victory.


It was a quite disappointing match for U Mumba as both of its star players – Siddharth Desai and Rohit Rana suffered injuries. With this loss, they have finished second from Zone A with 86 points in 22 games. Gujarat Fortune Giants have finished as the group leader with one more game yet to play.

In the other PKL match of the day on Saturday, at the same stadium, Bengal Warriors defeated Patna Pirates 39-23. Maninder Singh scored 11 points for Bengal Warriors and helped his team almost confirm their place in the playoffs from Zone B.
