PKL 2018 : UP Yoddha Wins Big against Bengal Warriors, Enter Playoffs

In the last league match of PKL 2018 before playoffs, an excellent display from UP Yoddha saw them cap off a six-match unbeaten streak with a 41-25 victory over Bengal Warriors at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on Thursday. With this win, they qualify for the playoffs for the consecutive second season. Nitesh Kumar scored a High 5 while skipper Rishank Devadiga scored maximum 9 raid points on the night to help UP Yoddha complete a memorable victory.

First Half

Rishank Devadiga got UP Yoddha their first 2 points of the night before Bengal Warriors put in two successive point raids to put 4 points on the board.  UP Yoddha’s defence became more lively after that as they managed two Super Tackles and levelled the game at 7-7 at the end of the 8th minute.

Rishank then got a touch on Ran Singh before Prashanth Kumar Rai got touches on Surjeet Singh and Ziaur Rehman to reduce Bengal Warriors to only one player on the mat. Nitesh Kumar’s Ankle Hold helped UP Yoddha in inflicting the first All-Out of the game in the 12th minute, with the scores reading 14-8.

Shrikant Jadhav got his first raid points of the match with touches on Ran Singh and Amit Nagar before Nitesh Kumar managed another Ankle Hold on Bhupender Singh. Jeeva Kumar got the last point of the half to help UP Yoddha take an eight-point lead while going into half-time, as the score reflected 19-11.

Second Half

UP Yoddha kept scoring freely in the second half, getting the first 3 points before Bengal Warriors got on the board. With Bengal Warriors down to just two men, substitute Adarsh T managed a double Ankle Hold on Devadiga to record Bengal Warriors’ first Super Tackle of the game in the 5th minute in the second half.

Nitesh Kumar then got an ankle hold on Ameares Mondal to reduce Bengal Warriors to 2 players on the mat. Sachin Kumar got a touch on Adarsh T. and Ziaur Rahman stepped out of the playing area which gave UP Yoddha their second All-Out of the game.

UP Yoddha led by 13 points at this point with the scores reading 27-14.  Devadiga got the first Super Raid of the game in the 10th minute of the second half with touches on Mondal, Adarsh and Bhupender to put UP Yoddha by massive up of 15 points.

An ankle hold by Nitesh Kumar on Nagar got him his high five and this was followed by Sachin Kumar’s touch point to reduce Bengal Warriors to only one player on the mat. UP Yoddha then inflicted their third All-Out of the match by way of a Nitesh Kumar double Ankle Hold on Baldev Singh. Some late heroics by Bhupender Singh gave Bengal Warriors more points towards the end but the game ended 41-25 in UP Yoddha’s favour.

UP Yoddha will face U Mumba in the Eliminator 1 match on 30th December. Bengal Warriors will play against Dabang Delhi in Eliminator 2 match on 30th December.
