Priyank Panchal is an Indian right-handed batsman who plays for Gujarat in Domestic Cricket. Born in Ahmedabad, Priyank also plays as a right-arm medium-pace bowler for his teams.

The young cricketer was selected for the 2021/22 South Africa tour. He received the opportunity as the third opener after Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul. He is the replacement for India’s Vice Captain, Rohit Sharma.

Born in April 1990 in Gujarat, Panchal began playing cricket at a very early age. His father played cricket at the interstate level and supported him a lot in his journey.

According to Priyank, his father used to wake him up at 4:30 every day to help him get ready for morning matches. Priyank’s father was also very strict about his diet, ensuring that he didn’t eat a lot of junk food.

When he was just 15 years old, his father died due to cardiac arrest. The tragedy only strengthened his determination to play cricket at the international level.

In addition to being a cricketer, he also works as a tax assistant in Ahmedabad. He received the job at the Income-tax office through sports quota.

Priyank Panchal played cricket for the first time in 2003-04. He played in the Polly Umrigar Trophy for the Under-15 team. He played in the tournament for two seasons. 

Then, he played in the Under-17 team at the 2005-06 Vijay Merchant Trophy. He scored a beautiful century in the tournament. In the next season of the tournament, Priyank played in both the limited-overs and the three-day match.

Domestic Cricket

He made his List-A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on 27 February 2008. In his debut match itself, he scored 123 runs off 115 balls against Maharashtra. His brilliant century included 17 fours and one six.

The next season, he made his first-class debut in the Ranji Trophy against Saurashtra.

In the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy Season, Priyank was the leading run-scorer for Gujarat. He scored 1310 runs in 17 innings. He played an important part in Gujarat’s maiden Ranji Trophy win. 

Priyank became the first player from Gujarat to score 1000 runs in a Ranji season. He also became the first Gujarat player to score a triple century. He scored an amazing 314 against Punjab.

Priyank Panchal scored 542 runs in seven games in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy. He was the leading run-scorer for Gujarat that season. Also, he was named for the India Green team in the 2018-19 Duleep Trophy. 

Priyank continued his form and ended up as the leading scorer in the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare trophy, and in the Group Stage of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy. He scored 367 runs in the Vijay Hazare trophy, and 898 runs in Ranji Trophy.

Panchal was named as the India Red Captain for the 2019-20 Duleep Trophy. He was also named in the India B’s squad for the 2019-20 Deodhar Trophy.

Panchal scored a century against New Zealand in 2020 playing for India A. Working with Rahul Dravid, Priyank Panchal played some great knocks for India A against Sri Lanka A and West Indies A.

International Cricket

Priyank Panchal was named in the India squad for the 2021 test series against England. He replaced Rohit Sharma in the 2021 India squad for the South Africa tour. In February 2022, Priyank was named in India’s Test squad for their series against Sri Lanka.
