In a recent development, Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian cricketer, has generated considerable attention within the cricketing community by subtly commenting on the marketing skills of Yuvraj Singh, all the while making a veiled reference to former captain MS Dhoni. This remark, delivered during a podcast, has initiated conversations among both fans and experts. Known for his forthright demeanor, Gambhir highlighted that Yuvraj Singh, who was the Man of the Tournament in the 2011 World Cup, lacks effective public relations representation. Although seemingly innocuous on the surface, the comment takes on added significance when considering the broader context.

In an interview with ANI, Gambhir was responding to inquiries about the 2011 World Cup Final, where his pivotal innings of 97 was somewhat overshadowed by MS Dhoni’s unbeaten knock of 91*.

In reply, Gambhir stated:

“When people talk about being ‘underrated’, these are the same people who ‘undervalue’, ‘under show’, and ‘underappreciate’. Nothing is underrated.”

Smita Prakash expressed the view that Yuvraj Singh did not receive the credit he deserved.

To this, Gambhir replied:

“And you know it, you tell me, a player who won the man of the tournament of 2011 World Cup, how many people talk about him? Probably because he doesn’t have a good PR agency. A Broadcaster can never be PR machinery. The broadcaster needs to be fair to everyone sitting in that dressing room.”

Significantly, MS Dhoni served as both the captain who guided India to success in the 2011 World Cup and the standout performer in the final, earning the title of Man of the Match.

The remark has sparked discussions regarding the relationship dynamics between Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni, who experienced on-field disagreements in their playing careers. Known for his outspoken nature, Gambhir appears to have subtly drawn attention to what he considers an oversight in acknowledging Yuvraj Singh’s contributions.
