Pro Kabaddi League 2018: Haryana Steelers edge out Bengal Warriors 35-33

Star raider Monu Goyat played a match-winning game to help Haryana Steelers gain a narrow 35-33 victory over Bengal Warriors in a thrilling encounter at the inter-zonal challenge contest of Pro Kabaddi League (PKL).

Goyat scored 12 points and got a super raid in almost the last minute to win the tough contest for Haryana. His teammate Vikas Kandola scored five raid points. In the other match of the Wednesday, Dabang Delhi conquered Bengaluru Bulls 32-31 to secure their fourth win at home.

Bengal Warriors were better in the second half but didn’t maintain their composure in the last five minutes. Maninder Singh contributed 11 raid points for Bengal Warriors.

Maninder Singh gave Bengal with a two-point raid in the very first minute of the game. Haryana Steelers took two minutes to come into their own as they picked up a few tackle points to trail 3-6 after four minutes. Monu Goyat picked up a raid point in the seventh minute and levelled the match 7-7.

Then both teams traded a couple of tackle and raid points each and score was tied at 11-11 after 14 minutes of the game. Haryana inflicted an all out in the fifteenth minute to lead 15-11 after Monu Goyat’s successful raid.

At the end of the first half, Haryana was leading with a scorecard as 19-12 as Bengal Warriors wasted a strong start.

Bengal warriors better in the second half as it picked up six points compared to Haryana Steelers’ two in first six minutes. Just when Bengal Warriors were looking to cut down the gap, Monu Goyat grabbed an important raid point which gave Haryana 22- 18 lead after 27 minutes of the game.

Maninder Singh’s successful raid helped Bengal Warriors inflict an all out as they levelled the score at 22-22.

The pendulum swung to both side in the final 10 minutes as both teams kept exchanging raid and tackle points. Haryana Steelers forced a super tackle in the 36th minute of the game to level the game at 29-29. Monu Goyat’s successful raid gave Haryana Steelers 32-30 lead with just two minutes to go in the game.

Ravindra Kumawat picked up a raid point in the 40th minute as Bengal trailed 31-32. Monu Goyat made a brilliant super raid in the last few seconds of the match to secure a thrilling win for Haryana Steelers.
