Athletics as an alternative
Pijush’s mother Pratima Ghosh revealed that Pijush was restless in childhood, and often used to make mischief. That was the key reason she and her husband decided to make Pijush busy in sports, precisely athletics.
Pijush is a student in the 12th standard. He trains under the guidance of a local coach Prabir Pal and has been practicing for the last six years.
“We cannot train on the tartan track. Naturally, it becomes difficult for us to assess performance. I have the desire to train on the tartan track at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Kolkata complex after I finish my 12th class final examination next year.”
Influence of Cristiano Ronaldo on Pijush
Pijush is highly influenced by Cristiano Ronaldo’s childhood struggle and success. He said,
“I often watch videos of Ronaldo’s training, his interviews. I also have read about the struggle he had in childhood. I get inspired. I dream of reaching his stature as an athlete.”
Pijush is also influenced by India’s former cricket captain MS Dhoni. He added,
“I try to take calmness and a cool-headed mind from him.”
Simultaneously, Pijush mentioned he is plagued by nervousness before the competition and during that phase, he tries to generate confidence by remembering Ronaldo and MS Dhoni’s interviews. He also mentioned that he does meditation before any major competition.
