Pawan Negi is an Indian Cricketer. He is a left-arm orthodox spinner who plays for Delhi at the domestic level. He plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Born in Uttarakhand, this left-arm orthodox bowler the Delhi franchise had bought him for 8.5 crores in the 2016 IPL auction. He had performed incredibly well for Chennai Super Kings the previous year. But in the IPL 2022 auctions, he was left unsold.

Personal Life

Pawan Negi was born on 6 January 1993 in the city of Almora in Uttarakhand. He has a sister named Babita Negi who is also a national cricketer. His sister plays for the Delhi Women’s team.

His father’s name is GS Negi, and his mother is called Kamla Negi. Pawan was always interested in cricket. He used to visit the RP Academy in Gargi College to play cricket. Gargi College is located in South Delhi.

Domestic Career

Pawan Negi plays for Delhi at the Domestic level. He began his domestic career for Delhi in 2012 in both the limited over formats, T20 and ODI cricket. 

Pawan Negi can be considered somewhat of a bowling all rounder. He can trouble batters with left-arm orthodox deliveries, and can also function as a good middle-order batsman.

Although Negi has played a couple of List A and First-Class matches, it’s in T20 that he really shines.

Negi began his IPL career way back in 2012. He played for the Delhi Daredevils franchise for two years, in 2012 and 2013. 

In 2014, he was bought by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), one of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League. He played for the franchise in 2014 and 2015.

After consistent impressive performances for the CSK, Pawan Negi went on for an astounding 8.5 crores in the 2016 Auction.

He was repurchased by the Delhi Daredevils, although a number of teams wanted him.

Pawan wasn’t able to justify the price though, as his performance level dropped in the 2016 season. The franchise decided to let him go at the end of the year.

In 2017, Pawan Negi was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for 1 crore. This time, Negi didn’t disappoint as he took 16 wickets in 12 matches.

The franchise decided to retain him in the 2018 season using the ‘Right to Match’s Card. Pawan Negi played for RCB from 2017 to 2020.

The Kolkata Knight Riders bought Pawan Negi for the base price of 50 lakhs in 2021. But, he didn’t get any opportunity to play for them. In 2022 season he was left unsold.

International Career

In the 2016 Asia Cup, Pawan made his International T20 debut. He played against the United Arab Emirates for India on 3rd March 2016.

This is the only international match he has played till now. However, he was also picked for the T20 World Cup in 2016. But, He didn’t receive any chance to play a match in the tournament.
