Pakistan’s cricket squad will visit India for the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup (WC) 2023, according to the ministry of foreign affairs of Pakistan. In recent times, India and Pakistan have only met one another in multi-nation events, hence they haven’t participated in any bilateral series together. The last time the Pakistan cricket team visited India was in 2016 for the T20 World Cup.
There was some ambiguity over the inclusion of Pakistan in the WC because of political difficulties between the two countries, but that has been solved.
According to the foreign ministry’s statement, Pakistan has repeatedly emphasized that sports and politics should not be intertwined. As a result, it has chosen to send a squad to India to play in the World Cup.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a press release,
“Pakistan has consistently maintained that sports should not be mixed with politics. It has, therefore, decided to send its Cricket Team to India to participate in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.”
As it appears that a small number of other games involving additional squads will also be rescheduled, the International Cricket Council (ICC) will shortly announce an amended schedule.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs chastised India for not sending a cricket squad for the next Asia Cup in Pakistan.
The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs lashed out against India stating,
“Pakistan’s decision shows its constructive and responsible approach vis-à-vis India’s intransigent attitude, as the latter had refused to send its Cricket Team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup.”
