Ram Nath Kovind, the Hon’ble President of India, presented Padma Awards to 47 deserving personalities, including nine sportspersons on Monday.

The sportspersons who received the award were Wrestler Bajrang Punia, Cricketer Gautam Gambhir, Football captain Sunil Chhetri, Basketball player Prashanti Singh and Archer Bombayla Devi Laishram. Besides, Grandmaster Harika Dronavalli, Kabaddi captain Ajay Thakur and Table Tennis player Sharath Kamal, were in the list of Padma awardees too.
Veteran mountaineer Bachendri has also been honoured with the Padma Bhushan.

Bajrang Punia, a freestyle Indian wrestler from India is a World Championship silver and bronze medallist. He bagged a gold medal both at Asian Games and Commonwealth Games in 2018.
Ajay Thakur: The recipient of Padma Shri Award 2019
Ajay Thakur is a professional Indian international Kabaddi player and the present captain of the Indian national kabaddi team. In 2016, India won the Kabaddi World Cup because of his efforts and performance plus great teamwork.
He became the star player of the World Cup 2016.
Gautam Gambhir’s outstanding contribution to Indian Cricket
Gautam Gambhir served an important role in India’s win in the finals of both the 2007 World Twenty20 (75 runs from 54 balls) and the 2011 Cricket World Cup (97 from 122).
Gambhir is the only Indian and one of four international cricketers to score centuries in five consecutive Test matches. He completed his 10,000 runs during the quarter-finals of the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy. In 2018, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
For his this impeccable contribution to Indian cricket, Gambhir recently was presented with the Padma Shri from the Government of India, the fourth highest civilian award in India this year.
The Fantastic captain: Sunil Chhetri
The Padma Shri awardee Sunil Chhetri, an Indian professional footballer captained both the Indian Super League side Bengaluru FC and the Indian National Football team. He has scored the 2nd highest number of goals in international matches after Cristiano Ronaldo.
