ROHIT SHARMA VS SRILANKA: – The mammoth 264 run innings by the Hitman should be called the mother of all hundreds, which is the world record for the highest individual score in ODI Cricket. Rohit’s 264 comes against the Sri Lankan side who were not formidable they once were. This time around Rohit made up for the failure when he fell 10 runs short of the then-record held by Virender Sehwag — 219 against the west indies.
Rohit Sharma’s innings progression against Sri Lanka: 50 in 72, 100 in 100, 150 in 125, 200 in 151, 250 in 166, and he finished with a score of 264 in 173 balls. He lit up the Eden Gardens and the 2nd highest run-scorer that day was Virat who scored a half century.-- Advertisement --
ROHIT SHARMA VS AUSTRALIA: – The Hitman Rohit Sharma produced a masterclass batting performance in the last ODI of the series against Australia to score a then career-best 209. He achieved this score in just 158 balls which included 12-fours and a record 16-sixes with a strike rate of 132.27.
Rohit Sharma smashed the highest number of sixes hit by an individual in ODI by surpassing the previous record of Shane Watson who smashed 15 sixes against Bangladesh at Dhaka in the year 2011.-- Advertisement --
ROHIT SHARMA VS SRILANKA: – Him again, this guy needs to stop now. Rohit had hit 25 boundaries in which 12 of them were sixes alone. This knock took India to 392/4 in 50 overs and eventually India went on to win the match comfortably by 141 runs. Sharma is the only cricketer to have scored three double hundreds in ODI cricket. It was also the second against Sri Lanka and the other one was against Australia.
ODI double centuries: Marti Guptill
MARTIN GUPTILL VS WEST INDIES: – the stage was set, the World Cup Quarterfinals and the big man turned up in style. He became the second batsman to score a double century in a World Cup game after Chris Gayle. Martin Guptill scored an emphatic unbeaten 237 – the highest score by any batsman in World Cup history, smashing the previous record of Chris Gayle who had scored 215 against Zimbabwe at Canberra in the same edition of the World Cup. It is the second-highest individual score by any batsman in ODIs after Rohit Sharma’s 264.-- Advertisement --
ODI double centuries: Virender Sehwag
VIRENDER SEHWAG VS WEST INDIES: – West indies again? Seems like they have a special habit of getting smashed by one player. Virender Sehwag scored a mesmerizing 219 run inning against West Indies at Indore. It was the highest ever ODI score at the time.
Virender Sehwag is without a doubt one of the greatest opening batsmen ever in the history of cricket. In a career spanning more than 14 years, the swashbuckling Delhi opener redefined the opening batting in all formats. While the people will remember the two triple centuries in test matches, his ODI double century in 2011 in Indore is equally memorable. Incidentally, that special double hundred knock turned out to be his last century for India in ODIs so it will always be cherished by the fans all over the world.
Fastest double century in ODI: Chris Gayle
CHRIS GAYLE VS ZIMBABWE: – On 24th February 2015, Chris Gayle became the first man to score a double-century in the World Cup. The West Indies legend achieved the incredible feat in the clash against Zimbabwe in a group game in the World Cup against Australia. Gayle’s knock is special since it came exactly five years after Sachin Tendulkar’s double century in ODIs against the Proteas in 2010. Chris Gayle scored the fastest 200 in ODI.
Gayle’s knock of 215 off just 147 balls consisted of 10 fours and a record 16 sixes which he shares with Rohit Sharma. He became the first non-Indian and the fifth batsman overall to score a double-century in the 50-over format. Before Gayle, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Rohit Sharma all had achieved the feat.
ODI double century by Pakistani Player: Fakhar Zaman
FAKHAR ZAMAN VS ZIMBABWE: – This inning by Fakhar Zaman made him the first Pakistani batsman to score 200 in ODI cricket and the sixth player overall to achieve this feat in ODIs of scoring Double Hundred in a game.
His unbeaten 210 runs in just 156-balls included twenty-four fours and five sixes. His strike rate was 134.61 which helped Pakistan post their highest ever team score 399 against Zimbabweans in the fourth ODI.
Sachin Tendulkar 200
SACHIN TENDULKAR VS SOUTH AFRICA: – Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar became the first cricketer in the history of ODI cricket to score a double hundred in ODI as famously put by the words of Commentator Ravi Shastri “the man first man in planet to reach the figure of double hundred”. The little master bowed down to the pitch with a 200 not out in Gwalior as the crowd along with players applauded this valiant effort.
No other male cricketer before Sachin had reached the 200-mark in ODI cricket. However, Belinda Clark was the first cricketer to score an ODI double hundred in 1997 in a match against Denmark that too in a Women’s World Cup.
