The selection committee meeting held for about five hours on Sunday afternoon. The NRAI decided to swap the quota won by Chinki Yadav in the women’s 25-meter event.

NRAI stated- The quota belongs to the country and not the shooter who secures it.

Why Reserve Shooters?

Seeing the uncertainty caused by the Corona pandemic, NRAI has reserved two shooters in each category.

Both Chinki Yadav and Anjum Moudgil are kept as reserves in 25 m pistols and rifle 3 positions events respectively.

The ace shooter Manu Bhaker will represent in the women’s 25 m pistol event. She will be participating alongside the experienced Rahi Sarnobat. Manu will also be competing in the 10 m air pistol events with Yashaswini Singh Deswal.

The shooters have been selected on the basis of their performance in the NRAI’s Olympic qualifying cycle. The cycle began from the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, followed by World Championship, four World Cups, and Asian Championships in 2019. In the final stage, it was selection trials organized by NRAI– stage 1 and stage 2 earlier this year.

As per the policy of NRAI- an average of 5 best scores in the International Championship, starting with the Jakarta Asiad, was taken into consideration before selecting the final team.

Anjum Moudgil, who was the 1st Indian shooter along with Apurvi Chandela to earn quota for the Tokyo Games at the 2018 World Championships, will be competing in the women’s rifle 3 positions event. She will be participating along with the experienced Tejaswini Sawant.

Chandela and Elavenil will participate in the women’s 10 m air rifle event.
