Sreeja Akula of RBI secured a second consecutive women’s singles crown after beating Sutirtha Mukherjee of West Bengal 4-2 in the 84th UTT Inter-State Senior National Table Tennis Championships on Monday.
Former national champion Sutirtha Mukherjee won the first game, but Sreeja’s eventually registered a 9-11, 14-12, 11-7, 13-11, 6-11, 12-10 win over the West Bengal player.
Meanwhile, G. Sathiyan too clinched his second men’s singles national title. Sathiyan defeated Harmeet Desai at the Gymnasium Hall of Jammu University. G. Sathiyan won the first crown in 2021, beating Sharath Kamal in the Panchkula Nationals.
Sathiyan’s dominance was visible as he stroked his way with thundering forehands and backhands.
Sathiyan dominated the game and paved his way up with the win in every game except for the first one. In the end, Sathiyan registered an 11-9, 11-7, 11-8, and 11-5 win.
Both Sreeja and Sathiyan received Rs. 2.75 lakhs each following their victories.
Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles, Jeet Chandra and Ankur Bhattacharjee of West Bengal won by handing a defeat to Mohammed Ali and Vansh Singhal of Telangana in the straight games.
The pair of Sreeja Akula and Diya Chitale also defeated the pair from Maharashtra, Swastika Ghosh and Shruti Amrute, 3-1 to win the gold medal in the women’s doubles final.
In the mixed doubles final of National Table Tennis Championships, Manav Thakkar and Archana Kamath won by handing a defeat to Ankur Bhattacharjee and Moumita Datta from West Bengal 3-0.
