Following his fifth-place finish in the Zurich Diamond League, Sreeshankar, alongside Avinash Sable (competing in the 3000m Steeplechase) and Neeraj Chopra (participating in the Javelin Throw), has secured a place as a finalist in the forthcoming Diamond League finals in Eugene. This remarkable achievement marks him as the first-ever Indian long jumper to qualify for this prestigious one-day athletic event series.

Sreeshankar responded to The Hindu:

“I have my event on September 29th (qualification round) and October 1 (final) at the Asian Games. If I go to the US traveling some 15 hours, compete for a day, and then fly back to India and then travel again to China for the Asiad, that will be too much for my body.”

The period between the conclusion of the Diamond League final and the commencement of the athletics event at the Asian Games spans a 12-day gap. Covering the distance between these two locations entails a travel time exceeding 15 hours, as the United States and China are geographically separated over a considerable distance. Neeraj Chopra, the reigning World Champion, emphasized the challenges posed by the extensive travel schedule between these two major competitions.

He expressed the need for careful body management during this demanding period, revealing that despite his prior injury, he remains committed to participating in both the Diamond League and the Asian Games. Neeraj conveyed this message to the media during a press conference, highlighting his determination to compete in both prestigious events.
