Indian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar clinched the gold medal at the 13th International Jumping Meeting Filahtlitikos in Greece. Defending his title, Sreeshankar soared to victory with an impressive jump of 8.18m at the Kallithea Municipal Stadium. It was a commendable achievement for the athlete, who had previously won the championship in 2022 with an 8.31m jump.

Jeswin Aldrin also delivered a stellar performance. He transformed his fifth-place finish from the previous year into a silver medal in the 2023 edition. Aldrin achieved his best jump of 7.85m, demonstrating consistent performance throughout the competition.

Sreeshankar’s success was attributed to his exceptional consistency, with five of his attempts surpassing the 8m mark (8.17m, 8.11m, 8.04m, 8.01m, 8.18m). He secured the gold-medal-winning jump on his sixth and final attempt. Although Aldrin’s jumps fell short of his compatriot’s distance, he maintained his consistency with attempts hovering around the 7.80m mark (7.81m, 7.85m, 7.74m, 7.74m, 7.78m), securing his silver medal on the second attempt.

Unfortunately, Indian athletes Praveen Chitravel and Unnikrishnan Karthik did not participate in the triple jump event even though their names were on the start list.
