At the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, the fifth day of the World Athletics Championships 2023 will feature the participation of three Indian athletes in the qualifiers.
In the women’s javelin throw qualification, Annu Rani will be vying for a spot, while Parul Chaudhary is set to compete in the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase heats. Additionally, the Indian pair consisting of Murali Sreeshankar and Jeswin Aldrin will be striving to secure berths in the men’s long jump finals.
Jyothi Yarraji, the 100m hurdler, faced a setback on Tuesday as she secured the seventh position in her heat and consequently couldn’t advance to the semifinals. Despite her efforts, the 23-year-old athlete finished with a time of 13.05 seconds, which placed her 29th in the overall rankings.
Unfortunately, Indian participants have not performed as expected in this championship. In the events on Saturday, Avinash Sable, the national record holder in the 3000m steeplechase, also faced disappointment by finishing seventh in his heat race and thus failing to secure a spot in the final round. Three Indian athletes finished at the bottom in the final of the men’s 20km race walk, while the young athlete Shaili Singh also did not qualify for the women’s long jump final.
