In March 2018, Sreeshankar made a significant mark at the Federation Cup in Patiala, where he cleared a jump of 7.99 meters. This performance earned him a spot in the Indian contingent for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Unfortunately, just 10 days before the event, he had to withdraw due to appendicitis, which required emergency surgery. The surgery resulted in significant weight loss and affected his ability to walk properly.

Despite the setback, Sreeshankar displayed tremendous determination and resilience. Two months later, he participated in the 2018 Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Gifu and won the bronze medal with a jump of 7.47 meters, despite not being in his best physical condition.

In September 2018, Sreeshankar broke the national long jump record at the National Open Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar, achieving a jump of 8.20 meters. This remarkable feat also made him the first Indian athlete to qualify for the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha.

Continuing to push his boundaries, Sreeshankar set a new national record of 8.36 meters in 2022, further solidifying his position as one of India’s top long jumpers.
