The 141st IOC Session’s grand opening ceremony featured a dazzling array of sports and film celebrities from around the world, all converging in Mumbai on a Saturday. The honor of inaugurating the session was bestowed upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who did so in the presence of IOC President Thomas Bach and IOC member Nita Ambani. Notably, this session marks the return of the IOC to India after a four-decade hiatus.
The event received the distinguished presence of key figures, including Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck of Bhutan, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, World Athletics President Sebastian Coe, and IOA President PT Usha, along with numerous other esteemed sports personalities and heads of sporting federations.
Following their remarkable achievement of winning numerous medals at the Asian Games, several Indian athletes graced the event. Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic and World Champion, along with Olympic medalists Abhinav Bindra and Leander Paes, were joined by PR Sreejesh, a notable member of the Indian national hockey team.
Indian cricket celebrities Jhulan Goswami and Harmanpreet Kaur were prominent guests at the occasion, alongside celebrated Olympians Anju Bobby George and Anjali Bhagwat. The event also saw the presence of sports franchise owners Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt. Notable actor Deepika Padukone, whose father is the iconic badminton player Prakash Padukone, and whose sister, Anisha Padukone, is a professional golfer, also graced the occasion.
