Former India captain MS Dhoni inaugurated the victory memorial at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday. The memorial, to honor Dhoni, is built at the location where his legendary match-winning six landed in the stands during the World Cup finals against Sri Lanka in 2011.

Looking back on April 2, 2011, Dhoni and his team had scripted history as they triumphed in the 50-over world cup after 28 years. The Men in Blue had defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets to lift the trophy. With 4 runs required to win in the pursuit of 275, Dhoni smashed a six to clinch a historic victory.

In remembrance of that phenomenal triumph on home soil, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) honored the winning Indian team and its captain by building a memorial right at the spot where that match-winning six had landed. 5 chairs, from seat number J282 -J286, of the MCA pavilion stand were taken for this. MS Dhoni inaugurated the memorial five days after the 12th anniversary of the 2011 world cup victory.
