The IPL’s Most Expensive Overs: When the Runs Just Kept Coming

Cricket is intended to be a contest between the bat and the ball, but over time, the game has favored the batters more. Even fans now cheer for batters when they consistently hit the bowlers out of the boundaries rather than when they bowl aggressively or restrict the batter from hitting freely. Bowlers are under pressure to put up performances that might give them a voice in the game since batters can smash the ball wherever they can, thanks to contemporary rules and stadium dimensions. In contrast, there have been more high-scoring games in the IPL than low-scoring ones, and even massive runs have been easily chased down with extra overs. The bowlers were penalized during all this craziness, even when they delivered fine deliveries and welcomed some unwelcome, expensive spells to their names. In this blog, we will look at most expensive overs in IPL T20 history.

Yash Dayal, a young Indian speedster, is on the list of records one wants to avoid. Despite having a strong reputation on the domestic circuit, he had a terrible night and was heavily struck. It happened during an evening match in the IPL 2023 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). KKR required 29 runs off the last over to reach the enormous total of 205 they were pursuing. After the opening ball of the over, Umesh Yadav took a single, setting up Rinku Singh for a strike. In that over, Rinku Singh hit Yash Dayal for five sixes. Thus, Yash Dayal gave up 69 runs in 4 overs.
