12 fielders with the most catches in ODI [2020 Updated]

Yes, it is true that Catches Win Matches! A catch dropped can cost a team the game. But on the flip side, a spectacular catch taken to dismiss a set batsman can win a team a match. But catching the ball is not as simple as the fielders make it look. It needs extreme focus, athleticism, and reflexes. Over the years, many fielders have managed to take jaw-dropping blinders. They are the ones every bowler would love to have in their side. Here’s a  list of fielders with the most catches in ODI

The Wall of Indian Cricket, Rahul Dravid is one of the best fielders to have played the game. Except for occasional wicket-keeping, Dravid stood at slips. But having been trained as a keeper helped to build a solid hand to eye coordination and fast reflexes. In 344 matches, he took 124 catches. Apart from this, Dravid has also caught 72 catches behind the wicket. He comes twelveth in this list of cricketers with the most catches in ODI.

Apart from his batting and bowling prowess, Shahid Afridi was a good fielder as well. The former Pakistani captain has taken 127 catches in 398 matches. In 2018, he took a catch on the boundary in the PSL. The catch showed the effort Afridi has always put in towards Feilding. Incidentally, he also comes in the list of top 12 batsmen with most sixes in cricket.

An aggressive left-hand batsman and a part-time bowler, Allan Border is not much called upon for his fielding abilities. The former Australian captain was an excellent fielder in the slips, in particular, the wide third-to-fifth slip. In 273 ODIs, the Australian has taken 127 catches. Border credits his time at the Mosman Baseball Club, where he used to play in tow to three years older age groups for developing his fielding.

He is also the first and only Pakistani Cricketer to take 100 catches in Test cricket.

The most capped test and ODI captain has taken 133 catches in 280 matches for the Kiwis. He also holds the record of taking the most catches in test matches in 1997, after taking 28 catches.

Astonishingly, all the 12 players with the most catches in ODIs are retired. Among the active cricketers, Virat Kohli comes in at the 15th spot with 122 catches in 240 matches. The next Indian following the captain is his ODI deputy Rohit Sharma, who is ranked a distant 55th spot with 77 scalps in 219 matches.
