Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami has firmly denied any rumors about retiring from Test cricket. He was particularly upset with an online article that hinted he might quit, following in the footsteps of other players like <a href="https://www.kreedon.com/virat-kohli-retires-from-test-cricket-ahead-of-england-tour">Virat Kohli</a> and <a href="https://www.kreedon.com/rohit-sharma-retires-from-test-cricket-ahead-of-indias-england-tour-2025">Rohit Sharma</a>, who have recently retired from the longer format.
Shami posted the screenshot of the article titled &#8220;Mohammed Shami Retirement: After Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Indian Pacer Likely To Bid Adieu To Test Cricket&#8221; and gave a sharp retort. &#8220;Precisely, Maharaj. Apna job ke din bhi ginloo kitna adieu hai. Badme dekhle humara aap. Jaise ne satyanaash kar diya future ka. Kabhi toh accha bol liya kare. Aaj ka sabse kharab story, sorry,&#8221; he emotionally expressed his irritation over such unfounded speculation.

The pacer has played 64 Test matches for India, capturing 229 wickets at an average of 27.71. His most recent appearance in the longest format of the game was in the WTC final against Australia in June 2023.

After dealing with an injury during the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Cricket_World_Cup">2023 ODI World Cup</a>, Shami made his comeback to the Indian team earlier this year in the T20I series against England. He was part of the squad that won the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_ICC_Champions_Trophy">Champions Trophy.</a> However, his performance in the IPL 2025 season hasn’t been great. He’s taken only six wickets in nine matches, with an economy rate of 11.23, which isn&#8217;t ideal. The Sunrisers Hyderabad omitted him from their lineup for a game against the <a href="https://www.kreedon.com/ipl-2025-pbks-vs-dc-abandoned-mid-game-due-to-technical-glitch">Delhi Capitals</a>.
His IPL struggles raise questions about whether selectors will choose him for the upcoming five-match Test series against England. India felt his absence during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year, but now the selectors might have to decide if they prioritize recent performance over his experience.
With <a href="https://www.kreedon.com/mumbai-indians-get-boost-as-jasprit-bumrah-joins-team-for-ipl-2025">Jasprit Bumrah</a> and Mohammed Siraj likely to head the fast bowling lineup, it’s uncertain if Shami will find a spot in the squad. His chances may hinge on how he performs when the IPL resumes on May 17.
