The fierce archrivals, India and Pakistan, have been placed in the same Pool for the upcoming Men’s Junior Asia Cup Hockey 2023. The tournament will take place from May 23 to June 1 at Salalah, Oman. This prestigious event will witness ten promising Asian men’s hockey teams vying for victory, with three coveted spots up for grabs in the forthcoming FIH Junior Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023, scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The participating hockey teams have been divided into two pools. Pool A consists of Chinese Taipei, India, Japan, Pakistan, and Thailand, while Pool B sees hosts Oman joined by Bangladesh, Korea, Malaysia, and Uzbekistan.
During the pool stage, each team will face off against the other four teams in their respective pool once. The top two teams from both pools will advance to the semi-finals, while the third and fourth-placed teams will compete for the 5-8 place classification. The teams finishing in fifth place in each pool will battle it out to avoid claiming the tenth spot.
The semi-finalists who fall short of reaching the final will contend for the bronze medal. The two finalists and the team securing the bronze medal will secure their spots in the FIH Junior Hockey World Cup 2023. Since Malaysia is hosting the World Cup, their automatic qualification allows three additional teams to qualify if Malaysia reaches the semi-finals of the Junior Asia Cup.
