Having secured a record sixth World Championships title recently, India’s legendary boxer Mary Kom expressed that she wants to win a seventh World title along with an evasive Olympic gold at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Boxing legend MC Mary Kom is not at all in a mood to slow down after her latest glorious victory in World Championship. Now she has set her eyes on winning seventh World Boxing Championships title and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Gold.

She expressed, “Now that I have won the sixth title I want a seventh one and I also want to win an Olympic gold.”

Mary said despite some other responsibilities such as being a mother of three and being a member of parliament,  she has continued to work towards achieving her dream of winning the world championship again.

MC Mary Kom said, “My dream was to become a world champion again. I worked very hard for it. I am a mother of three I had several responsibilities. The government also gave me an extra responsibility by naming me Member of Parliament but I never stopped training.”

The 36-year-old Mary also dispelled all rumours of retiring any time soon. She said that she is going to fight for another 1-2 years at least.

Mary recorded her name in history by winning a remarkable sixth gold in 48 Kg category at the Women’s World Championship last week in Delhi.

Prior to that ‘Magnificent Mary’ has won successive gold medals in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010 editions. Her bronze in the Olympics came in 51kg in the 2012 Games. Mary is the first female boxer to win six World Championship gold medals.

MC Mary Kom, who presently fights in the 48kg category, will have to increase her weight for the 2020 Olympics qualifiers where she will have to fight in the 51kg division. There is no 48kg category in the Olympics.

She is determined to win the seventh World Championship and the most elusive Olympic gold in 2020 Olympic Games that will be held in Tokyo, Japan.

Mary is an exemplary example of her passion for boxing and has time and again proved the same. She is truly an inspiration for athletes, especially all the working moms out there!
