On Friday, Manas Dhamne advanced to the boys singles main draw at the famous Junior Wimbledon Championships 2023 by defeating the 10th seed Atakan Karahan in a three-set victory. In the second round, Aryan Shah faced elimination.
The 15-year-old Manas Dhamne defeated the Turkish opponent in the second and final qualifying round of the Wimbledon Championships by scores of 6-2, 6-7(5), and 10-8.
Dhamne, who is ranked 78th in the junior ITF rankings, served for the win at 40-15 in the tenth game of the second set and faced two match points. However, Karahan, ranked 69th, forced a third set.
Dhamne, who competed in the Australian Open but withdrew in the second round, will be competing in his second Junior Grand Slam of the year.
“It is a proud moment to represent my country at the Grand Slam. I don’t play much on grass, I don’t practice on grass. A week back I was playing on clay court in Morocco (on ATP Challenger circuit), so I had to adjust my game but I had got used to playing on grass,”
Manas Dhamne, who practises at the Italian Piatti Tennis Centre, dazzled at the Tata Open Maharashtra earlier this year. He had lost 2-6, 4-6 to American Michael Mmoh, but veteran Indian players praised his skill. The world number 47 Australian Hayden Jones will be his first opponent, and he may face top seed and second-ranked Juan Carlos Prado Angelo of Bolivia.
Meanwhile, Italian Fabio De Michele, the 11th seed, defeated the fourth seed Aryan Shah 3-6, 3-6, resulting in Shah’s elimination.
