Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal entered the women’s singles quarterfinal of the Malaysia Masters. She defeated Hong Kong’s Pui Yin Yip 21-14 21-16 in her second round on Thursday i.e, 17 January 2019.
World number 9, Saina who is currently seeded seventh, emerged victorious in just 39 minutes against Hong Kong’s Pui Yin Yip to reach the last-eight stage of the first Super 500 tournament of 2019.

Next, Saina is all set to face World number 2 Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the quarterfinals of the tournament. In their head-to-head matches, Saina enjoys the 8-4 lead. Saina recently recorded back-to-back wins against Nozomi Okuhara in the French Open and Denmark Open last year. If Saina wins against Okuhara, she may have to face fourth seed Carolina Marin.
Earlier, Saina Nehwal defeated Deng Joy Xuan of Hong Kong 14-21, 21-18, 21-18 to move into the second round of the women’s singles event.
On the other hand, another shuttler Kidambi Srikanth also moved into the quarterfinals of the tournament, after a comfortable 21-14, 21-16 win against Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong, today.
Earlier, Kidambi beat Hong Kong’s Angus Ng Ka Long 21-17, 21-11 to advance further in the men’s singles event of the tournament.

Parupalli Kashyap made an exit after losing the second round of the match
Parupalli Kashyap was knocked out of the tournament after losing 17-21, 23-25 to Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. Parupalli, who recently tied the knot with Saina, was be playing against sixth seed Anthony in the men’s singles second round match.
The final contest to which all India eyes will be glued to is between N. Siki Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa and Indonesia’s Ni Ketut Mahadewi Istarani and Rizki Amelia Pradipta, for the second round of the women’s doubles.
