Narendra Modi (Indian prime minister) inaugurated the Major Dhyan Chand Sports University on Sunday in Meerut. The university will be spread across 91.38 acres. The estimated cost to build the university is INR 700 crore. It will offer a three-year Bachelor in Sports, a Diploma and also Master’s as well as Ph.D. courses.
The university is established in the Salawa and Kali villages of Sardhana city.

The PM said that- “One of the key areas of focus for the Prime Minister is inculcating sporting culture and establishing world-class sporting infrastructure in all parts of the country. The establishment of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University at Meerut will be a major step towards fulfilling this vision”.
The University will be designed with all the modern and state-of-the-art sports infrastructure. Synthetic hockey ground, Cycling velodrome, Synthetic running stadium, football ground, Volleyball, Gymnasium hall, Basketball, Kabaddi ground, Swimming pool, Multipurpose hall, Handball, and Lawn Tennis court.
Shooting, Kayaking, Squash, Canoeing, Gymnastics, Archery, and Weightlifting are also a part of the University. The University will have the capacity of training 540 female and 540 male athletes.
PM Modi at the event said- “Meerut was Major Dhyan Chand’s ‘karmsthal’. Centre named the country’s biggest sports award after him and now Meerut’s Sports University will be dedicated to Major Dhyan Chand Ji”.-- Advertisement --
