Indian Premier League (IPL) is generally considered as a batsmen’s tournament. However, over the years, there have been extraordinary bowling performances and low scores have been defended admirably. The credit totally goes to the bowlers and fielders who are at their best to restrict a team to the lowest score possible. It might look really simple, but low-scoring matches are at times trickier to win than high-scoring ones. From over-confidence to a slow pitch or even individual brilliance; there are many reasons why a team can falter to its worst batting performance. Here are the top 15 lowest scores in IPL history:

A glimpse of few of the lowest scores in IPL
RCB’s Lowest scores in IPL: 70 vs the Rajasthan Royals (2014)
Entering the list at number 7 is the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Virat Kohli-led team posted 70 runs against the Rajasthan Royals on 26 April 2014, Abu Dhabi. Put to bat first, RCB lost opener Yogesh Takawale and Parthiv Patel in the 4th and 5th ball of the innings. Yuvraj Singh was the next wicket as he was caught at slip off Kane Richardson.
AB De Villers came in when RCB were struggling at 3-5 in 2.1 overs and departed the very next ball. Virat Kohli led the team till 46 before losing his wicket cheaply to Praveen Tambe. Tambe then tore apart the rest of the RCB’s batting order and finished with 4/20 and was named the Man of the Match.
RCB’s Lowest scores in IPL: 70 vs the Chennai Super Kings (2019)
The 2019 IPL season opened with the Chennai Super Kings welcoming RCB. There were high hopes from the franchise after promising purchases like Shivam Dube, Shimron Hetmyer, and Heinrich Klaasen among others. It was a 90-minute horrendous show from the RCB batsmen after being put to bat first on a slow pitch at Chennai.
Royal Challengers Bangalore's lowest totals in the IPL:
49/10 vs KKR, 2017
70/10 vs RR, 2014
70/10 vs CSK, Today
— Sampath Bandarupalli (@SampathStats) March 23, 2019
Only Parthiv Patel (29) scored in the double figures for RCB as the famed batting lineup failed. Harbhajan Singh turned back the clock as he picked 3 wickets including Virat Kohli and AB de Villers. His spin partner, Imran Tahir also picked 3 wickets, as RCB finished on their second-lowest score ever and the lowest total for any team in the IPL against CSK.
Kolkata Knight Riders 67 vs Mumbai Indians (2008): Lowest scores in IPL
Mumbai Indians bowlers went through the delicate KKR batting line-up with an ideal showcase of bowling on the 16th of May 2008. Salman Butt and Aakash Chopra opened the KKR innings. However, both lost their wickets in the beginning times to put the guests stuck in an unfortunate situation.
Sourav Ganguly and Ajit Agarkar endeavoured to take the group’s total to 3 digits, but the MI bowled the whole side out for a sum of 67 runs. Sanath Jayasuriya scored 48 off only 17 balls to help the home side register a triumph inside the obligatory powerplay itself. Shaun Pollock was the Man of the Match for his three vital wickets while conceding just 12 runs.
Delhi Daredevils 67 vs the Kings XI Punjab (2017)
Delhi Daredevils dropped to their most minimal IPL all out. Their prior lowest was 80 hard and fast in 19.1 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013. Corey Anderson, Kagiso Rabada and Karun Nair were the main batsmen to get into double figures as a shambolic batting exhibition from Delhi saw them being bowled out for only 67.
Sandeep Sharma picked 4 wickets while Axar Patel and Varun Aaron picked 2 each for the Kings XI Punjab. The Kings then turned on the style as they chased it down in 7.5 overs courtesy to a 27-ball-half century by Martin Guptill.
Delhi Daredevils 66 vs the Mumbai Indians (2017)
Delhi Daredevils feature on the top half of the lowest IPL scores lists for the second time! No wonder why the franchise had to rebrand into Delhi Capitals at the start of IPL 2019. This time it was MI spin twins Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma who totally disassembled DD in front of their own fans.
In the wake of choosing to bowl first, Delhi wound up stuck in an unfortunate situation with West Indies players Pollard and Simmons’ fireworks driving Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai to 213. In answer, the Delhi batting broke as Bajji and Karn spun a web around the batsmen. They finished with figures of 3/22 and 3/11 respectively as MI beat the forgotten franchise by an immense edge of 146 runs.
Rajasthan Royals 58 vs the Royal Challengers Bangalore (2009)
Banglore based franchise feature for the third time on this list of the lowest scores in IPL. However, this time it was for their brilliant bowling performance. In the second match of the second edition, RCB recorded a thumping 75-run win over defending champions RR in Cape Town, South Africa. Anil Kumble was the architect of emphatic win picking 5 wickets for just 5 runs.
But before Anil Kumble’s brilliance with the ball, it was another Bangalorean- Rahul Dravid who stood tall. ‘The Wall’ scored 66 while building a steady partnership with skipper Kevin Pietersen as they totalled 133. Barring the two, all RCB batsmen had scored in the single digits.
Royal Challengers Bangalore 49 vs the Kolkata Knight Riders (2017)
The Royal Challengers Bangalore feature on the top of teams with the lowest scores in IPL. After restricting the Knights to 131 with help from Yuzvendra Chahal’s brilliance of 3/16. However, KKR’s fast bowling unit overshadowed Yuzi’s brilliance as RCB faltered once again.
Nathan Counter-Nile, Chris Woakes, and Colin de Grandhomme all picked 3 wickets each. It was unbelievable that a batting unit that includes Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, and ABD fell for a mere 49 runs. No player in the RCB team was able to reach double digits as they embarrassed themself at Eden Gardens.
