Himanta Biswa Sarma, President of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) was elected to the Badminton World Federation council for the period 2021-25 on Saturday.

Himanta Biswas, who is also the VP of Badminton Asia, got 236 votes in his favor.  At the virtual AGM, 20 council members were elected from 31 contestants. (Council election of BWF)

No Amendments in Badminton rules; Why BWF rejected the new proposal?

The Badminton World Federation rejected the new proposal to amend the rules of badminton on Saturday. The new scoring system was supposed to change the 21 points scoring system.

The proposal to amend the scoring system was put forward by the Indonesian Badminton Association & the Badminton Association of Maldives. The Badminton Asia, Badminton Korea Association, and the Chinese Taipei Badminton Association supported the amendment. The best of 3 games (21 points) was to be changed to a best of 5 (11 points), as per the new scoring system.

Why Asia Cup 2021 Postponed To 2023?

“The Board has studied the matter very carefully, the only way left is to postpone the event to 2023.”

“The best feasible option is to postpone the 2021 Asia Cup to 2023”. Asian Cricket Council said in the statement.

Due to a packed schedule, the 2021 edition of the Asia Cup will now be held in 2023. Limited window in a tight cricket calendar, along with constant changes due to evolving COVID-19 situation, pushed ACC to postpone the tournament.

How the suspension of IPL helped team India?

” Playing two Test matches in England ahead of WTC, there couldn’t be a better way to prepare. For India, IPL suspension will probably help the side a little bit,” said Ross Taylor in a virtual press conference.

“If IPL had come, they would have had smaller preparations. Now they will be a lot more conditioned, their bowlers will get their loads up,” he added.
