Second seed in the tournament, India’s 17 year old Lakshya Sen defeated Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand 21-15, 21-10 in only 35 minutes. Through this very uplifting victory, Lakshya Sen clinched Tata Open India International Challenge 2018 title.
Lakshya Sen proved too superior to outplay Junior World Champion and his off-court friend Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand.
In the all-Indian women’s singles final, qualifier Ashmita Chaliha outclassed her eighth-seeded opponent Vrushali Gummadi 21-16, 21-13 in half an hour to lift her first international crown.
Lakshya Sen – A Bright star of Indian Badminton
It was expected that there will be a huge competitive contest as previously Kunlavut had defeated Sen in the semifinals of the World Junior Championships 2018. But it turned out to be a one-sided game as Lakshya Sen’s composure, temperament and immense control in the rallies was not matched by Kunlavut. With this Sen avenged the defeat he faced in the World Championship last month against the same opponent.
To the 17-year-old Lakshya Sen, this is greatly a confidence-building victory ahead of his senior level career.
The former junior World Number 1 Sen has had amazing performances in 2018. He has won gold at the Asian Junior Championships, silver at the Youth Olympics, and bronze at the World Junior Championships along with a few other titles. Sen has a long way to go ahead in his career but for now, he definitely has made his mark by exhibiting his excellency.
Lakshya said after the match that he knew how Vitidsarn plays and he knew exactly what he had to do in order to match up today. Well, he absolutely did and did it in some style & class.
Lakshya Sen is a silent player and just lets his powerful game speak on his behalf. Lakshya is considered the future star of Indian badminton, and it is very obvious because of his brilliant performances till now.
Now the aim of this ace shuttler will be to take this success he has had at the junior level, at the senior level too. He certainly has the capability, nerves and temperament to be the next badminton star of India.-- Advertisement --
