Virat Kohli Rested for Last Two Matches of the ODI Series Against NZ

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been rested for the last two ODI’s and the three-match T20I series against New Zealand, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) announced on Wednesday, 23 January. Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team in Virat Kohli’s absence.

“Considering his workload in the last few months, the team management and Senior selection committee are of the view that it would be ideal for him to get adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia,” BCCI said in a media statement.

The BCCI has managed Virat Kohli’s since the start of 2018. He was rested for the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka in March. He also didn’t play the one-off test match against Afghanistan at Bengaluru in June, the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates in September and T20I series against West Indies in November.

Kohli – The King of Records

Recently, Kohli swept the ICC awards. He has been named the ICC Cricketer of the Year, the ICC Men’s Test Player of the Year and the ICC ODI Player of the Year. He was also declared the captain of the ICC’s ODI and Test team.

In 2018, Kohli played 14 ODIs and amassed 1202 runs at an astonishing average of 133.55 with six centuries to win the ICC ODI player of the year for the second consecutive year. In the 13 matches that he played, Virat scored 1322 runs at an average of 55.08  with five hundred. Not any other player has even crossed a thousand runs in Test matches in 2018.

Bumrah rested too

India’s fast bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was also rested after the Test series win against Australia. Considering the upcoming World Cup in England, the BCCI is trying out new players. After the New Zealand tour, Australia is to tour India and there is a long IPL season before the World Cup.
