India, afterall, made light of their progress to the World cup semifinals with a thrilling 28-run victory over Bangladesh. The bowlers got it right in the end as Saifuddin’s fighting half-century went in vain. It all came down to just one man – Jasprit Bumrah – whose bowling in the death overs once again came to India’s rescue. The world’s No.1 ODI bowler ran through the Bangladesh lower-order by scalping four wickets to shun any late contest from the fellow Asians.
@Jaspritbumrah93 may not feature (as yet) among highest wicket takers in the tournament. But who will dispute he’s been among the best and most influential?

The Game
India started the game with two important changes – with Kuldeep Yadav and Kedar Jadhav making way for Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dinesh Karthik. The Men in Blue got one of the most convincing starts in their World Cup campaign this year, with Rohit Sharma (104) and KL Rahul (77) weaving together a partnership of 180. This was Sharma’s fourth ton in the World Cup this season. With that, he also became the top run scorer ahead of David Warner and Shakib Al Hasan with 544 runs. After the duo’s dismissals, Rishabh Pant (48), MS Dhoni (35) and Virat Kohli (29) chipped in some quick runs as India finished at 314/9.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, didn’t get the start that they would have wished for, with Tamim Iqbal returning early on. The Tigers kept on losing wickets on regular intervals. Shakib Al Hasan (66) was again in his elements, but he didn’t get support from the other end of the pitch. While Sabbir and Saifuddin staged a late challenge, the game had gone out of hands by then. The team at last gave up, 28 runs adrift from the target.
As a result, India become the 2nd team to qualify for the knockouts after Australia. Although they may have been knocked out, Bangladesh have rivals Pakistan’s fate in hand. If thy defeat the latter, it would be the end of story for the men in green.
