Khelo India Youth Games 2019: Bavleen Bags Gold, Kerala Rule Athletics

Gymnast Bavleen Kaur wins a gold medal for J&K in Khelo India Gymnastics held at Pune.
She got the first medal of the Khelo India Youth Games 2019 in the women’s Under-17 all-round rhythmic gymnastics event on Wednesday.

Bavleen saw off a challenge from Maharashtra’s Shreya Bhangale and Krisha Chheda, finishing on a total of 43:40.

It was her Ribbon and Hoop performances that proved to be decisive as she earned scores of 12.05 and 11.95, respectively.

Bavleen, who turns 16 later this week, took home an astonishing 3 gold and 2 silver medals. She surely backed up her performance at the Khelo India School Games 2018, where she bagged 4 medals, including 2 golds and the national championships last year, where she led her state to victory.

Kerala dominates 400 m in athletics

Kerala dominated 400 m events on the second day of the athletics events of Khelo India Youth Games at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mahalunge, Balewadi in Pune on Friday.

After two days of athletics events, Kerala now has seven gold, five silver and five bronze medals and are at the seventh place in the medals tally. Kerala added three gold, four silver and four bronze medals on the second day.

In the girls U-17 category, Sandra AS, Gouri Nandana and Priscilla Daniel made their way for medals. Abdul Razak also clinched gold at the same event in the U-17 boys’ category. Abdul clocked an impressive time of 48.34 seconds.

Maharashtra marches ahead in the medal race


Hosts Maharashtra marched ahead of the rest as they took their gold tally to 32 while Delhi, despite the efforts of their judokas and swimmers, were left eight behind at the end of Friday as the Khelo India Youth Games went into the first weekend.


Maharashtra is close to a century with 32 gold, 24 silver and 35 bronze medals — a total of 91, while Delhi with 24 gold, 17 silver and 20 bronze are second.


Lying in the third spot is Haryana with 18 gold, 20 silver and 26 bronze medals, a media release issued here said. Hosts Maharashtra bagged seven gold from athletics, three each from swimming and wrestling, besides two each from judo and weightlifting.

Odisha, UP, Haryana, Punjab in Semis in U-17 Men’s Hockey


Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab registered victories in their last Pool matches to secure spots in semi-finals of Under-17 Men’s hockey competition at the Khelo India Youth Games 2019 Thursday.

The semi-final matches of Under-17 Men’s category will take place Saturday (January 12) while for the Under-21 Men’s category, the semi-finals will be held on January 13 after the completion of the Pool B matches on Friday.
