Union Minister Anurag Thakur Inaugurates the Khelo India U-21 Women’s hockey league

The sports authority of India in collaboration with Hockey India has organized the first phase of the Khelo India U-21 Women’s Hockey League. The first phase of the league will align all the 14 teams together on the battlefield. Prize money of Rs. 15 Lakhs will be given to the winning team.

Starting from 15 December 2021, this league will continue till 21 December 2021. Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi will host the matches.

As per the release by the Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry of India this league will give the youngsters a chance to explore new opportunities & learn the sport in a much better way. 

While inaugurating the first edition of the league, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports stated that.-

“If such leagues are established across the country before participating in big events, it will helps the athletes to play around the year.

“I believe this is a big initiative. The support from SAI and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in the past 5-6 years has been immense. This positive attitude has helped in achieving good results for the Indian hockey team in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.” President of IOA (Indian Olympic Association)  Batra said.

“Led by the vision of Modi ji, we are taking forward the campaign of Cheer 4 India through this league. I believe there are many such young players who will always make sure we keep our flag high in the sporting arena.”- Nisith Pramanik said.
