Kerala Blasters Take a Stand: Condemning Racial Abuse Following BFC Encounter

Kerala Blasters FC conveyed their profound dismay and apprehension regarding an incident of suspected racial abuse during their recent ISL match against Bengaluru FC. Allegedly, Bengaluru FC player Ryan Williams was accused of using racial remarks against Kerala Blasters defender Aiban Dohling in the opening match of the league’s 10th season held at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium.

The incident unfolded during the 82nd minute of the match, which Kerala Blasters emerged victorious in. Kerala Blasters said in a statement,

“It has come to our attention that during the match, one of our players was subjected to a disrespectful gesture by a Bengaluru FC player. We want to make it abundantly clear that there is absolutely no room for racist and derogatory behaviour in our club and in the sport. Racism, discrimination, and disrespectful actions have no place on the football pitch or anywhere else,”

Furthermore, the club specified that they have lodged an official complaint with the relevant authorities, urging them to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the matter. The statement read,

”Kerala Blasters wish to express our deep disappointment and concern with a regrettable incident that occurred during our opening match against Bengaluru FC,”
