One of the most inspirational woman athlete from from India, Jwala Gutta is a top level international badminton player. She is one of the finest doubles specialist player in the world. Along with with doubles partner Ashwini Ponnappa she has won many national and international titles/superseries. She was born in Maharashtra and brought up in Hyderabad. Her father is a freedom fighter and her mother hails from China. Her mother is the granddaughter of the famous Chinese Gandhian, Tseng, who visited Sevagram ashram in India in 1971.
Early in her Career of Jwala Gutta
Jwala started playing Tennis at the age of 4, but switched to badminton after 2 years. During the same time, her father introduced her to the National Badminton Coach, S.M Arif. Arif made her learn gymnastics and swimming before starting her training for Badminton.
As a 6 year old Jwala Gutta started her career as a Badminton player and won Under-13 Girls Mini National Championship held in Kerela. She has won National Badminton Championships 14 times since then. A truly wonderful feat for this ace badminton player.
Jwala Gutta’s Glory
Jwala has won the Badminton Nationals six times in a row with Shruti Kurein as a partner. She then teamed up with Ashwini Ponnapa and soared to new heights of success. This pair ranked at number 10 in 2015 BWF (Badminton World Federation) ranking. Jwala was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2011.
Jwala currently ranks at number 12 in World Doubles. She also dedicates her time into social causes like anti-tobacco, animal rights and women empowerment actively.
