Japan Open 2023: Lakshya Enters Semis, Satwik-Chirag knocked out, Prannoy to face Axelsen

Indian badminton sensation Lakshya Sen had an effortless outing with Japan’s Koki Watanabe, winning in straight games (21-15, 21-19) and entering the semifinals of the Japan Open 2023.

He prevailed in the second game, 21-19. Watanabe battled valiantly, but the Indian holds fast to take victory in straight games.

Meanwhile, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the world no. 2 men’s doubles duo, were pursuing their third consecutive BWF World Tour victory at the Japan Open Super 750 when they were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Olympic winners Lee Yang and Wang Chin-Lin of Chinese Taipei. Lee and Wang won by scores of 21-15, 23-25, and 21-16.

The world no. 10 male singles player from India, HS Prannoy, will face world no. 1 Viktor Axelsen in the quarterfinals of the Japan Open later on Friday.

In the Indonesia Open this past month, Prannoy fell to the Danish shuttler, but she won the Indonesia Masters (2021) and BWF World Tour Finals (2022) against Axelsen.
