Anish Bhanwala secured India’s inaugural medal at the ISSF World Cup Final by earning bronze in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol (RFP) event at the Lusail Shooting Range in Doha, Qatar. This achievement marked the culmination of a remarkable year for the 21-year-old athlete. Throughout the year, Anish accomplished several milestones, including clinching his first-ever senior individual ISSF World Cup stage medal, securing a senior Asian Championships medal, and earning a quota place for the Paris Olympics.

In the final on Friday evening, Anish scored 27 points, securing the third position. The gold was claimed by German shooter Peter Florian, a bronze medallist at the world championship, with 35 hits. Li Yuehong of China, the reigning world champion and a double Olympic medallist, secured second place with 33 hits after eight series of five rapid-fire shots.

Anish, India’s last participant in the Doha WCF, would have preferred a smoother journey to secure a spot in the top six. However, a score of 92 in the last five rapid-fire series on Friday afternoon made it a challenging path for him. Despite this, his qualification score of 581 was sufficient to edge out German competitor Christian Reitz for the seventh position.
