ISSF World Championships 2023: Akhil Sheoran Wins Bronze, Ensures India’s 5th Olympic Entry

Akhil Sheoran clinched a bronze medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event during the ISSF World Championships 2023 held in Baku, Azerbaijan. His exceptional display of skill not only earned him a podium spot but also guaranteed India a coveted quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

This achievement was particularly significant, as Ukraine’s Serhiy Kulish and Petr Nymbursky had already secured Olympic quota places by securing the fourth position. Akhil’s objective in the final was to secure a position within the top four among the remaining six competitors. He successfully fulfilled this objective with remarkable proficiency. During the concluding shooting assessment, Akhil exhibited remarkable determination.

In spite of starting from the sixth position following the opening kneeling round, he staged a remarkable recovery in both the prone and standing segments. This effort led to him achieving an overall score of 450, earning him the third spot on the podium. The top honors were dominantly clinched by Alexander Schmirl of Austria, who achieved a remarkable score of 462.6. Meanwhile, the second-place finish went to Petr Nymbursky of the Czech Republic, who secured a score of 459.2.

During the initial qualifying rounds, Akhil Sheoran secured the sixth position by achieving a total score of 585 points. This accomplishment enabled him to advance to the final phase featuring eight participants.
