Indian shooter Dhanush Srikanth claimed victory in the men’s 10m air rifle event to clinch a gold at the 2023 ISSF Junior World Cup (WC) held in Suhl, Germany on Monday. Dhanush Srikanth’s triumph marked India’s third gold medal in the ISSF WC thus far.
Dhanush showcased exceptional precision and composure throughout the 24-shot final, amassing an impressive score of 249.4. His phenomenal performance left the silver medalist, Pontus Kallin of Sweden, trailing by a significant 1.3 points. Romain Aufrere of France secured the bronze medal in the event.
In the skeet mixed team competition, Harmehar Lally and Sanjana Sood added to India’s medal tally by securing a bronze. The Indian duo triumphed over their Swedish counterparts, David Jonsson and Felicia Ros, in a thrilling shoot-off.
With these achievements, India currently leads the medal table, having secured three gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. The United States closely trails behind with two gold and one silver medal. The competition is set to continue with the women’s 10m air rifle final later in the day.
The junior men’s 10m air rifle event saw commendable performances by three Indian shooters. Alongside Dhanush, Pratham Bhadana finished in fifth place with a score of 628.7, while Abhinav Shaw, the winner of the air rifle mixed team gold, secured the eighth spot with a score of 626.7.
In the skeet mixed team event, two Indian pairs participated, with Ritu Raj Bundela and Raiza Dhillon finishing seventh in the qualifiers.
