ISSF Baku World Cup: Hriday Hazarika and Nancy clinch silver in 10m air rifle

Indian shooters Hriday Hazarika and Nancy clinched their first individual senior World Cup medals, both earning silver in the men’s and women’s 10m air rifle competitions at the ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan on Friday.

Hazarika, a former junior world champion from Assam, demonstrated excellent shooting in the final with his lowest score of 10.1 coming in the first shot of the 24-shot contest. Hazarika held on to his spot until the 20th shot, when Sheng Lihao pipped him to second place with a 10.9 in his 20th shot.

Meanwhile, Nancy, from Haryana, did even better, recording a lowest score of 10.2 in her final shot. However, they both lost to more accurate shooters on the day. Nancy was beaten by China’s Han Jiayu in the women’s event.

Rudrankksh Patil and Shahu Tushar Mane, the other Indians in the fray, finished 19th and 23rd, respectively. Divyansh Singh Panwar and Arjun Babuta registered solid scores for ranking points only.

China and India are battling for supremacy with two more days remaining of the ISSF event, as China leads the medal tally with two gold, one silver, and two bronze, while India has one gold, two silver, and one bronze.
