A defensive mistake by Kerala Blasters’ goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh helped Raynier Fernandes to take control of the ball. Fernandes passed it to Modou Sougou who was on his right and Sougou curled it into the top right corner from the edge of the box to make the score 2-0.
For Kerala Blasters Seiminlen Doungel scored one goal in the 27th minute. But their joy was short-lived as Modou Sougou, scored a goal in the 30th minute. Sougou was on fire as his header off a cross by Subhasish Bose landed into the right top corner of the Kerala goal. With this goal, Sougou completed his hat-trick and took his side 3-1 up at the halftime.
The hosts kept up the pressure by attacking the opposition persistently. In the 70th minute, Brazilian striker Rafael Bastos made it 4-1.
