A Draw-matic game
Chennaiyin and Odisha both started with a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Xisco Hernandes registered the first shot of the game for the visitors Odisha FC in the 6th minute. However, it was not enough to trouble the keeper.
The following minute, Odisha FC picked up on a loose ball and charged towards the Chenniayin goal. Xisco was there once again to register the shot which was on target this time. Vishal Kaith made a super save to deny the Odisha no.10 a goal.
In the 18th minute, Odisha had a chance from a freekick. The delivery was not met by any of the attacking Odisha players as it was deflected out. The entirety of the first half was dominated by the visitors.
Jerry could have made it 1-0 for Odisha just before the half time; however, his ball was just wide of the goal.
In the 50th minute, Chennaiyin FC scored the first goal of the game. Nerijus Valskis was left unmarked in the box as he received the ball. He made no mistake as he tapped in the ball and gave Chennaiyin the lead.
3 minutes later, it was the visitors turn to score. The cross from the left side of the box was received by Jerry who was waiting at close quarters of the keeper. He then made no mistake in picking out Xisco Hernandez who volleyed the ball into the Chennayin net making the score 1-1.
In the next 20 minutes, Chennaiyin had 2 more attempts at goal. Finally in the 70th minute, from a corner, Valskis leapt high enough to head the ball goalwards and gave the hosts a lead once again. 10 minutes later, Aridane Santana, levelled the score for the visitors yet again.
The game was very well fought from start to end. Odisha didn’t give up in scoring the equalizers while it was very important for the 2-time champions to start scoring goals once again.
Chennaiyin FC finally moved out of the bottom 2, and are now in the 8th place, while Odisha FC is currently in the 6th place.
