The 22nd match of the Indian Super League saw a goalless draw between neighbouring teams of the east coast, ATK and Odisha FC. The game that was played at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune lacked a killer instinct from both the sides as there were very few clear cut goal-scoring opportunities.
Odisha started the game with a 4-2-3-1 formation while ATK played a 3-4-1-2. In the 3rd minute, Aridane Santana registered the first shot of the night, which was slightly off target.
Daniel Lalhlimpuia dribbled past a set of defenders in the 16th minute, however, his shot lacked intention and found the gloves of the ATK keeper.
In the 26th minute, David Williams made a pass to Javier Hernandez who was in a good position to find the net, but the Odisha keeper’s alertness brought him out pf his line to collect the ball.
The 35th minute saw the Odisha players call for a penalty claim as Shubham Sarangi went down in the penalty area. However, it seemed like the player had made a dive and the referee let the game progress.
ATK had a good chance of going ahead in the 39th minute, as David William’s long cross into the box nearly missed Krishna Roy, who couldn’t make a proper connection with the ball.
David Williams attempted a low, long-range effort which wasn’t properly collected by the keeper and luckily enough there wasn’t an ATK player to capitalize on the keeper’s mistake.
ATK got a free-kick just a few yards outside the box, a couple of minutes after the second half began. However, the set-piece by Javier Hernandez was not on target and flew way above the goal.
In the 51st minute Martin Guedes attempted a volley goalwards, but ATK keeper Arindam was there to block his shot. Five minutes later, David Williams had another shot on goal but it found the keepers gloves yet again.
The next half an hour of the game consisted of a few corners which were cleared out and some crosses in the box by both the teams which failed to find the goal.
The game ended with both teams playing out a 0-0 tie. There was a lack of creativity and no real goal-scoring chance for both the teams. ATK is now on top of the ISL table with 10 points having won 3 matches, drawing one and losing once. Odisha is 6th in the league with 1 win from 6 games having drawn and lost 2 games each.
