Vidarbha’s Akshay Karnewar notched a century to frustrate the Rest of India bowlers

Ranji Trophy Champions Vidarbha scored a mammoth 425 runs in the first innings of the Irani Cup on Day 3 at Nagpur in reply to Rest of India’s (ROI) 330. In the second innings, ROI was batting at 102/2, garnering them a lead of 7 runs.

On Day 2, Vidarbha had posted 245/6. However, the Rest of India bowlers weren’t able to wrap up the tale. Akshay Wadkar and Akshay Karnewar, who were batting at 50* and 15* respectively, went ahead in their business. Wicketkeeper-batsman Wadkar scored 73 off 139 balls which included 14 boundaries.

Akshay Karnewar frustrated the Rest of India bowlers and notched up a brilliant century. He made 102 off 133 balls which included 13 fours and 2 sixes. The lower order also contributed for Vidarbha. Akshay Wakhare (20), Rajneesh Gurbani (28*) and Yash Thakur (10) took the Nagpur side’s score to 425 and a lead of 95 runs.

For Rest of India, Rahul Chahar picked up the most 4 wickets while Ankit Rajpoot, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, and Krishnappa Gowtham claimed 2 wickets each.

Rest of India batters Mayank Agarwal and Anmolpreet Singh opened for the Rest of India in the second innings. Akshay Sarwate struck early for Vidarbha. The left-arm spinner was gifted a wicket by Anmolpreet Singh. Singh made 6 (21).

After tea, Mayank Agarwal who scored 95 in the first innings was removed by Akshay Wakhare. He made 27 (39) with 4 boundaries. Captain Ajinkya Rahane joined Hanuma Vihari on the crease. The duo led the Rest of India charge. They added a 50 run stand.

At stumps, Hanuma Vihari and captain Rahane are batting on 40* (85) and 25* (65) respectively. RoI has posted 102/2 with a lead of 7 runs.

The Ajinkya Rahane led side will look to increase their lead on Day 4 to challenge the Ranji Trophy winners.
