After their disappointing defeat on Sunday, it was revealed that Shane Watson, during his stint of scoring 80 runs, suffered from a injury that left him with a bleeding knee.
The stunning update was given by the Australian cricketer’s teammate Harbhajan Singh viaa Instagram. He further added that Watson received 6 stitched in the aftermath.
“Can you guys see the blood on his knee…he got 6 stitches after the game..got injured while diving but continue to bat without telling anyone. That’s our @srwatson33 Almost pulled it off for us last night,” read his post.-- Advertisement --
This is not the first time that Shane Watson has proved his mettle at crucial times. He produced a man of the match performance in the 2018 IPL Final against Sunrisers Hyderabad by hitting a century. In fact, the Aussie was on course to repeat the feat again this time around. As CSK kept on losing on one end, Watson held his nerves despite the painful knee injury. With 38 needed from 18 balls, he hit Krunal Pandya for three consecutive sixes, almost taking CSK past the finish line.
But then, it was the knee injury that prevented Watson from completing his second run, resulting in a runout. That precious wicket, ultimately, was the difference between the two sides. It must noted that Shane Watson didn’t ask for any runners in spite of the ghastly wound.-- Advertisement --
Having struggled to get runs on the scoreboard this season, he nonetheless ended the year with 398 runs from 17 innings.
Here is how Twitter reacted on Watson’s epic heroics:-- Advertisement --

This is how you set examples for the next generation who are Watching the sport. Every action was by choice, not by chance. Take a bow @ShaneRWatson33.

Respect for Shane Watson has gone beyond roof. His left knee seems to be badly injured with blood flowing out. He still batted and dived in the last over. Admirable from Watto to put his body on line at 38 after suffering from injuries throughout his career ?? pic.twitter.com/4yqeGoubk4
