The hotly anticipated 2019 IPL Auctions would be held today and the one name that would probably make waves in the mega-event is a 20-year-old all-rounder by the name Sam Curran.
The stunning emergence of Sam Curran for England’s national team this summer is expected to attract a raft of interest among the Indian Premier League’s wealthy teams. In the buildup to the auctions, the Surrey-based all-rounder had set his price as ₹2 crores, a figure that took him in the league of biggies like Corey Anderson, Lasith Malinga, and Brendon McCullum.
Sam emerged as a find-of-the-season for England with his match-winning performances against India. That put him directly to the notice of many IPL teams. Consequently, a number of franchises, including Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore, are understood to have a deep interest in the player. All-rounders are viewed as precious commodities, among the IPL teams too.
Despite his tender age, Curran has time and again shown himself to be a steely batsman, especially in high-pressure situations. His two half-tons this series saved England at Edgbaston and the Ageas Bowl, whereas the left-arm angle of his swing bowling also offered a significant point of difference.
The current IPL season thus comes as a big platform for the youngster if he is desiring of breaking into England’s 2019 World Cup Plans.

The 13th edition of the IPL season will be held from 29 March to 19 May, just before the WC. His compatriots like Eoin Morgan have opted out of the league for the same reasons whereas the rest will be returning soon for an ODI against Pakistan from 5th May.
Although England already have a talented left-arm all-rounder in David Willey, but the team management might want to utilize Curran in that hole, especially due to Curran’s temperament.
Surrey has previously provided world-class players for IPL most notably Tom Curran, Sam’s elder brother, had turned out for Kolkata Knight Riders this year.
It will be interesting to see how the steep talent and the accompanying price tag will pan out for the talented Sam Curran.
