<p>A technical issue caused officials to abandon the match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and <a href="https://www.kreedon.com/ipl-2025-rain-washes-out-srh-vs-dc-seals-srhs-elimination">Delhi Capitals</a> (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at HPCA International Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday, May 8, halfway through. A technical issue emerged after only 10.1 overs of the first innings; PBKS, having elected to bat first, had impressively scored 122/1 when the game stopped. The last wicket to fall before the game stopped was <a href="https://www.kreedon.com/priyansh-arya-biography-from-domestic-cricket-to-ipl-stardom">Priyansh Arya</a>, who had scored a frenetic 70 off just 34 balls.</p>
<p>After dismissing Arya, a match official arrived on the field; meanwhile, a floodlight tower malfunctioned at the stadium. A power outage caused the issue in the local area. A neighboring tower also failed, violating minimum playing conditions. The BCCI apologized and evacuated the ground for safety reasons.</p>

<p>Eyewitness reports and videos shared on social media tell us that IPL chairman Arun Dhumal spoke to the crowd and asked them to remain calm and cooperative while clearing the stadium. The security forces assisted the fans and players in leaving the stadium. The darkness plunged some sections of the stadium into a safety concern.</p>
<p>To ensure the players and staff could get home safely, the BCCI arranged for a special train from Una nearby so they could travel back from Dharamsala. BCCI vice-president <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rajeev_Shukla">Rajeev Shukla</a> told the Times of India that the board officially abandoned the match, and he reiterated that safety is the board&#8217;s top priority. <strong>&#8220;The match could not continue this night because of the situation. It was not safe,&#8221;</strong> he said.</p>
<p>An emergency meeting of the IPL governing council was called to assess the ramifications of the incident. The expected outcome will determine whether the tournament continues in its current format or a modified one. The fans are waiting to hear what happens. The sudden and rare occurrence left uncertainty over the rest of the tournament.</p>
