RCB batsman Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, the Lucknow Super Giants mentor, have been heavily fined for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 Code of Conduct during a RCB vs LSG match on Monday. The incident took place after RCB won the match in a low-scoring thriller, when Kohli and Gambhir clashed on the field, leading to a huge altercation involving several others.

Although Kohli and Gambhir shook hands after the match, the situation soon escalated when LSG opener Kyle Mayers walked up to Kohli and said something. Gambhir took Mayers away, but tempers continued to flare up, leading to an animated discussion between Kohli and Gambhir that was separated by other players.

The IPL has fined Gambhir and Kohli 100% of their match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct, and both players admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.21 of the code. In addition, Lucknow Super Giants’ bowler Naveen-ul-Haq was fined 50% of his match fee for committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.21 of the code.

The IPL takes disciplinary matters very seriously and expects all players and staff to maintain the highest standards of conduct both on and off the field. The league has reiterated that such incidents will not be tolerated, and it will continue to take strict action against anyone found in breach of the IPL Code of Conduct.
