Suresh Raina on Wednesday added another feather to his cap by becoming the first fielder in the history of the Indian Premier League to take 100 catches. The Chennai Super Kings cricketer achieved the feat as CSK beat Delhi Capitals by 80 runs at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
He achieved the feat at the expense of the young DC opener Prithvi Shaw off Deepak Chahar’s delivery in the first over of the second innings.
Earlier in the season, Raina became the first IPL player to score more than 5,000 runs in the league. Known as Mr. IPL for his all-round cricket antiques, Raina is also the league’s highest run-scorer.
Raina is considered as one of the best fielder in world cricket apart from being an aggressive left-handed middle-order batsman and an occasional off-spin bowler.
He was signed by the Chennai Super Kings in the first season of the tournament itself. Since then, every year Raina took his team to higher levels and also gave significant importance to the team after the losses of key players like Matthew Hayden, Michael Hussey, and Jacob Oram. He is paid around ₹ 11 crores per annum for his services.

On 23rd March 2019, in the first match of the 12th edition of the tournament against RCB, he became the first batsman to score 5,000 runs in the IPL.
This year’s IPL did not have a single CSK match where Raina took a catch. The last time he took three catches was against Rajasthan Royals on March 31. After Raina, it is AB De Villiers has 84 catches on his table followed by Rohit Sharma 82, Kieron Pollard 80, Virat Kohli 72.
In CSK’s batting earlier in the match, Raina scored 59 off 37 balls which set the tone for CSK. Adding to his runs, M.S. Dhoni smashed 44 off 22 balls to take take the score to 179 for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs.
